Dunn: Bolivia must open up to international companies like Google, Facebook, or Apple

“We should not think of private companies as only national. We want the presence of private companies and (…) we must be open to the world,” said financial advisor Jaime Dunn.

Financial advisor Jaime Dunn stated that the country must open up to international private companies like Google, Facebook, or Apple to make Bolivia attractive for investment and business.

“We should not think of private companies as only national. We want the presence of private companies and (…) we must be open to the world,” he said on Piedra, Papel y Tinta by La Razón.

During the broadcast, he emphasized that companies like Google or Facebook are larger than the Bolivian state and can therefore invest in ventures and private companies in the country, reducing dependence on the state.

He cited Ireland as an example, where during its 2008 economic crisis, authorities recognized the lack of private companies and insufficient state resources. As a result, they allowed the entry of international private companies. “If there are no nationals, let the nationals partner with the internationals.”

He asserted that with such agreements, schemes, and partnerships, Bolivia could become attractive to global private investment.

“But they shouldn’t devour us, Jaime,” commented host Claudia Benavente.

“There’s no need for them to devour you; you set clear rules and make it work,” Dunn replied.

Following his example with Ireland, he noted that Google’s offices left the United States and moved to Ireland. “Facebook too, and Apple’s most important operations have also relocated to Ireland.”

He suggested creating opportunities for foreign capital to enter and view the country as a viable investment destination. “Let’s learn from these lessons.”
