  • Amid the discontent, public sector transporters complained that Premium gasoline has allegedly caused problems in vehicle pumps. “There is no guarantee, and it doesn’t perform better than the regular gasoline,” they stated.
Despite announcements of sales regularization, long lines continue at several gas stations in the city of La Paz..

After several days of fuel shortages in the country, despite announcements to regularize supply, long lines for gasoline and diesel continued yesterday. Now, drivers are skeptical about the product imported by Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB).

Moreover, the lack of foreign currency and the decline in liquid hydrocarbon production have complicated the supply situation. Adding to this are complaints about the sale of fuel without guarantees, as despite the availability of four types of gasoline, all seem to have the same octane rating, and no entity certifies otherwise.

In this context, distrust and dissatisfaction are growing regarding the quality of fuels sold at service stations in the national market. Public sector drivers have reported that Premium gasoline has caused problems in vehicle pumps.

Raúl Velásquez, a hydrocarbons sector analyst from Fundación Jubileo, does not share the criticism regarding the disguised “gasolinazo” due to the introduction of new types of gasoline.

However, he pointed out that consumers are being forced to use biofuel, a blend of ethanol and traditional fuel, without the option to choose.

According to former Hydrocarbons authority Álvaro Ríos, internationally, fuel quality verification is done with each tank that is filled.
