The former president confirmed the start of the Caracollo to La Paz march, vowing not to let the MAS or his candidacy be destroyed. Luis Arce responded in a national broadcast, urging him not to endanger the country for personal ambitions.

Former president Evo Morales and his supporters have confirmed their march to La Paz and roadblocks for this week, demanding economic stability and the confirmation of his candidacy for 2025. In response, Luis Arce Catacora’s government warned that it would apply the full force of the law against those attempting to destabilize the country.

As the power struggle between the leaders of the two factions within the Movement for Socialism (MAS) intensifies, Bolivia finds itself once again on edge, fearing a repeat of violent scenes like those at the end of 2019.

On Sunday night, long lines of vehicles formed at fuel stations in La Paz due to fears that the blockades might cause shortages.

In addition, warning messages from the sectors that plan to mobilize began circulating on social media. One such message was shared by the DTV television channel in a video showing an armed group known as the “Ponchos Rojos” from the Omasuyos province, calling on the population across the country to join their pressure campaign.

According to the post, the protesters announced that they would begin their demonstration on Monday and continue “until President Luis Arce resigns.”

From various cities, Radio Kausachun Coca, the communication outlet for the Six Federations of Cocaleros from Chapare that support Morales, reported that numerous groups were preparing to arrive in Caracollo on Monday to begin the march to La Paz on Tuesday, led by the former president himself.

In the morning, during his radio program, Morales reaffirmed the march. “Supposedly the march is putting pressure. Yes, we will pressure, we will defend, it’s decided, I want everyone to know, we will defend; they won’t kill MAS, impossible, nor Evo’s candidacy,” he said.

In the evening, Arce delivered a national address directed at Morales, accusing him of seeking to destabilize the country, even at the risk of bloodshed, all for his personal ambition to run for the presidency, disregarding the Constitution. He said he would not allow it.

“I won’t let you put our people’s lives at risk, and I will act according to what our Constitution mandates. Here I am, Evo, I won’t run away. If you want to solve a problem you have with me because I didn’t agree to be your puppet, come here, I’m waiting for you, and we’ll resolve this issue within the rules of democracy. Don’t drag the people into conflict and death for your whims and ambitions for power,” Arce warned.

On Friday, Deputy Minister of Citizen Security Roberto Ríos reported that Morales had already been notified of a court ruling on an “Action of Popular Demand” that prohibited him from carrying out any mobilization or roadblock. He warned that security would be ensured and citizens’ freedom of movement would be guaranteed throughout the country.

“As the Bolivian Police, we have already issued the necessary instructions to ensure free circulation in our country. We must guarantee citizens’ rights, including the right to health and work,” he announced.

As of Tuesday {Monday] morning, Morales had not responded to the warnings issued by the President in his televised address.
