Despite announcements by government authorities regarding the provision of dollars, banks have placed limits on transactions in US currency to cards, a situation that prevents citizens from making their electronic payments for contracted services.

Protests from users have spread on social media as they are prevented from carrying out their operations. Furthermore, they compare Bolivia’s situation to what happened in Venezuela or Cuba, and also note similarities to Argentina during the Kirchner era, where transactions in foreign currency were limited, leading to an increase in product prices.

In this regard, the president of the Departmental College of Economists of Tarija, Fernando Romero, stated that commissions are skyrocketing knowing that there is a need for companies and individuals to conduct financial transactions with the US currency.

On the other hand, economist Darío Monasterio, at one point, stated that the high commissions are due to banks acquiring the currency at a high price in the market, and the charge reflects the cost involved.
