Rejecting the announcements of social upheaval made by leaders of the ‘evista’ wing within the Movement for Socialism (MAS), national assembly members pointed out that such threats stem from Evo Morales’ desperation to impose his electoral aspirations, demanding that government authorities take necessary measures to prevent new confrontation scenarios in the country.

After the First Constitutional Chamber of the Departmental Court of Justice of La Paz instructed the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to accompany the national congress of the MAS, convened by the ‘arcista’ Unity Pact, the leader of the ‘evista’ wing within the ruling party, Ponciano Santos, warned that with these provisions, ‘war’ had been declared.

“I want to emphatically state that we are already in mobilizations and in a state of emergency. We will see each other in the social upheaval of the country, even if they say we will harm the economy. There will be a civil war. Mobilizations and war have already been declared,” Santos said, also noting that the controversial judicial decision does not respect the current Political Constitution of the State (CPE).

In response, the deputy for Citizen Community (CC), Alberto Astorga, attributed these types of announcements to the desperation of ‘evismo’ to keep their leader relevant and support his aspirations to participate in the general elections as the candidate of the blue party.

During a press conference, the assemblyman from La Paz anticipated that the possible measures of force to be taken by the radicals of the MAS will be widely rejected by a population that wants to work and carry out their activities normally, also recalling that the figure of the coca leader is increasingly resisted by the citizenry.

“We can see all the desperation that exists in Evo Morales, as all of this is being ordered from Chapare; clearly, the announced measures will not have the corresponding strength because we all know that Morales no longer has support,” he said.

In Astorga’s view, in the current situation, discussing pressure measures that are not aimed at defending democracy, demanding solutions to the economic crisis, or urgently renewing justice, is to insist on actions that do not enjoy popular support and will not achieve any effect.

He added that forcing pressure measures with a completely political character and in defense of personal interests such as Morales’ candidacy will only generate rejection and adverse effects contrary to those expected by its promoters.

“It is time for the government to put on its pants, and Minister Eduardo Del Castillo, once intervene because it cannot be that some opponents have been prosecuted for participating in peaceful demonstrations, while Morales is allowed total freedom to try to stir up the country,” he said.

In that sense, he called on government authorities to stop fearing the radicalism in the blue party and to take the necessary actions to prosecute and, if necessary, imprison those responsible for calling for measures that go against free movement, totally contrary to the Political Constitution of the State, to stir up the country and prevent citizens from exercising their right to move freely throughout the national territory.

Yesterday, after the TSE’s determination to ‘provisionally and conditionally’ accompany the MAS congress convened by the ‘arcista’ wing in the city of El Alto, during an extraordinary broadcast of his radio program, Morales threatened with new measures to stir up the country, holding the national government responsible for the effects of this mobilization. “Don’t provoke us,” he said.

Adding to the threats, ruling party senator Leonardo Loza urged Morales to ensure his safety against a possible government attack on his integrity. “They could shoot us at any time and invent and say it was an accident, as they are accustomed to saying,” said the ‘evista’ parliamentarian.

Loza also demanded that representatives of the ‘arcismo’ not be cowards or evade the consequences of the pressure measures to be executed in the following days. “Don’t be cowards, don’t be crybabies when conflicts break out,” he said.

For his part, ruling party deputy from the radical wing, Freddy López, affirmed that President Luis Arce will have to leave the country in the event of a social crisis.

“I hope that this situation of social upheaval that he has caused does not lead to a crisis, if that happens, practically President Luis Arce Catacora will have to pack his bags to leave the country, just as other governments have done in the past that have caused social problems,” he said.

In response to these statements, ‘arcista’ deputy Deysi Choque, disqualified the coca leader reminding him that in 2019 he fled the country, leaving his militants in the midst of a social conflict after the electoral fraud.

“These threats come from a coward who left the country abandoning an entire population, leaving mourning, blood, and pain in our country. Today, living in democracy, he comes to play tough and threaten,” Choque said, reminding Morales that he left the country ‘with his tail between his legs’.
