Protest mobilizations in the country, after reports of electoral fraud, after the vote counting of the 2019 general elections.

The preparation of a new Biometric Electoral Register is a historical debt to the country, said the congressman for the Citizen Community (CC), Alejandro Reyes, who reiterated that this database does not have the trust of the population for the holding of future elections.

He stated that one of the actions to be carried out in the coming months must be to contrast the figures emanating from the National Population and Housing Census with the Biometric Electoral Register database, in order to detect possible irregularities and alterations.

Likewise, he advanced the opposition’s support for any initiative aimed at enabling a clean-up or the creation of a new registry and, in this way, the reliability of the results of future electoral processes in the country can be guaranteed. “We know that the current registry is inflated,” he pointed out.

The representatives of the national civic movement, meeting in Tarija, issued a document, warning about the dangers to democracy in the current situation, and also maintain the urgent need to have a new Electoral Registry.

On the other hand, a survey carried out by Unitas, between June 10 and 26, 2023, maintains that 70% of the population consulted believes that in 2019 there was electoral fraud that led to the crisis of October and November of that year. Furthermore, 51% of those consulted consider that the claim of a coup d’état in 2019 is false.
