They describe Arce’s speech at the UN as hypocritical | Califican de hipócrita el discurso de Arce en la ONU

ANF, El Diario:

About the call for peace and care of the environment

  • The Bolivian opposition questioned the Head of State’s speech in the international organization because not even in his own party is there peace and he has more than 200 “political prisoners” in the country.

The opposition in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly described as “hypocritical” the speech of the head of state, Luis Arce, at the United Nations Organization, which proposed “declaring the world a territory of peace” and offered ideas for caring for the environment based on indigenous peoples, as in Bolivia.

The head of the CC caucus in the Senate, Andrea Barrientos, and the senator from Creemos, Centa Rek, described the head of state’s speech as “hypocritical” because his words do not reflect the reality that the country is experiencing on the issue of the pacification of citizens and the care of the environment.

“In reality, his attitude and message are totally hypocritical because he talks about preserving the environment (…) when we find ourselves fighting to (preserve) aquifers (in Santa Cruz), a vital element for life. (His speech was not serious), he spoke as if ideal policies would be generated in Bolivia when it was the opposite,” Rek declared.

Barrientos questioned the head of state because his own Vice Minister of the Environment, Maguin Herrera, ruled out an ecological pause only because there is no more smoke from the forest fires.

“We are talking about a country in which Luis Arce himself has opposed signing the zero deforestation policy in the Amazon,” recalled the Creemos senator.

The president of Bolivia, in his speech at the UN General Assembly, proposed seven ideas for the world: Declare the world a territory of peace; change the capitalist system; take concrete actions and renewed commitments in the face of the climate crisis; “banish the international system from the implementation of sanctions and unilateral coercive measures”; and stop what he considered an “outrage” against the Palestinian people regarding the occupation of territory by Israel.

In relation to the care of Mother Earth, the president proposed to “assume concrete actions and commitments to overcome the climate crisis, such as the one promoted by Bolivia before the United Nations General Assembly for the recognition of Mother Earth as a being deserving of rights”, which is based on the precepts of the indigenous peoples that make up the plurinationality of Bolivia.”

On the issue of peace, the opposition described it as a double standard that the head of state talks about declaring a territory of peace when his own party is divided and there are at least 200 “political prisoners” in the country.

“He talks about peace, reconciliation, when Bolivia has more than 200 political prisoners in jails, illegally detained; so, it is practically double talk,” questioned the Citizen Community (CC) deputy Alberto Astorga. “He does not tell the truth at the international level about political persecution,” added.

Barrientos added that “dictators” have no face to speak of unity or children’s rights because they are authoritarian and ignore freedom in their own countries. “He is talking about a country in which there have been 63 femicides and more than 14 infanticides so far this year,” she stressed.

Arce had his third intervention at the UN and the general debate, in which leaders and heads of government from around the world participated, began under the leadership of the Bolivian ambassador, Diego Pary, elected vice president of the UN Assembly. (ANF).
