The Health Minister announced meetings with Oruro authorities to assess the situation of the fourth wave of the pandemic.
Due to the increase in infections by Covid-19 at the national level, the Minister of Cultures, Sabina Orellana, reported that the possibility of suspending the Oruro Carnival is being analyzed.
Orellana recalled that the departmental and municipal level determined to suspend the first Oruro carnival invitation that was scheduled for Sunday, December 5, and argued that the future of the festival is being analyzed with this precedent.
“For now, the first invitation has been suspended. It is not yet suspended to the Carnival. That will be evaluated. We are going to meet to see the issue of the fourth wave that comes to us,” announced the minister.
In this possible meeting, she specified, the Oruro authorities will have to participate. “With our departmental authorities in Oruro we will decide to suspend or not suspend the carnival,” she announced.
The head of Cultures explained that there are national, departmental and municipal governmental powers. However, she stressed that “people’s lives and health must be safeguarded.”
In recent months, Bolivia registered an increase in infections due to Covid-19. On Monday, 1,276 cases and 25 deaths were confirmed from the coronavirus.
La ministra de Salud anunció reuniones con autoridades de Oruro para evaluar la situación de la cuarta ola de la pandemia.
Debido al incremento de contagios por Covid-19 a nivel nacional, la Ministra de Culturas, Sabina Orellana, informó que se analiza la posibilidad de suspender el Carnaval de Oruro.
Orellana recordó que el nivel departamental y municipal determinó suspender el primer convite del carnaval de Oruro que estaba programado para el domingo 5 de diciembre y argumentó que con ese antecedente se analiza el futuro de la festividad.
“Por ahora se ha suspendido el primer convite. No está suspendido todavía al Carnaval. Eso se evaluará. Nos vamos a reunir para ver el tema de cuarta ola que se nos viene”, anunció la ministra.
En esta posible reunión -precisó- tendrán que participar las autoridades orureñas. “Con nuestras autoridades departamentales de Oruro decidiremos suspender o no suspender el carnaval”, anunció.
La titular de Culturas explicó que existen competencias gubernamentales nacionales, departamentales y municipales. Sin embargo, destacó que “se debe precautelar la vida y salud de las personas”.
En los últimos meses Bolivia registró un incremento de contagios por la Covid-19. El lunes se confirmaron 1.276 casos y 25 fallecidos a causa del coronavirus.
