EFE, Market Research Telecast [para español, aqui]:

La Paz, Nov 10 (EFE) .- The director for the Americas of Human Rights Watch (HRW), José Miguel Vivanco, urged the president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, to “ensure” the right to peaceful protest after the strong clashes registered in the three days of the indefinite strike in the country.

“The President @LuchoXBolivia must call for calm and dialogue, ensure the right to peaceful protest regardless of the political position and guarantee the work of the press,” Vivanco said on his Twitter account.

Since November 8, the day on which Arce completed one year in the Presidency of Bolivia, in several cities of the country an indefinite strike against the law of National Strategy to Fight against the Legitimization of Illicit Profits and Financing has been partially complied with. Terrorism also known as “mother law”.

The Police and groups related to the Bolivian ruling party have violently intervened the blockades in the streets and there have been clashes that have left several injured and detained.

“Bolivia: The clashes between civilians in the context of protests and attacks by police against journalists are very worrying,” said the director for the Americas of HRW.

In this sense, journalists’ unions have denounced repeated aggressions suffered by various journalists in several cities of the country at the hands of the Police and groups related to the official Movement to Socialism (MAS) during the coverage of the strike that this Wednesday completes three days.

The Bolivian National Association of Journalists condemned the “physical, verbal and psychological” attacks suffered by informants from Potosí, Oruro and Santa Cruz.

The most serious case was registered in Potosí, where the journalist Dilver Soria, from the radio station Red Pío XII, “was hit by a firecracker that pierced his vest” and they tried to destroy the work teams of Manuel Soux and other reporters.

The HRW manager also stated that “it is imperative that the authorities investigate the death of one person and the multiple cases of injuries.”
