Three regions of the country were affected by heavy rains that caused landslides, flooding of rivers and impassable roads. This phenomenon was registered in the departments of Santa Cruz and northern La Paz, while, in the Tunari mountain range in the department of Cochabamba, it snowed.
According to reports of digital media and netizens on the road to Yungas yesterday, due to an intense rain, mud slides were registered, the increase in the flow of rivers and landslides that affected vehicles’ transit.
Through its Twitter page, the Bolivian Road Administration (ABC) reported the incident caused by the weather and moved machinery to clear the route.
“ABC reports the traffic cut in the Arroyo San Joaquín sector (km 100) of the La Paz – Unduavi – Santa Bárbara stretch. Intense rains caused the drag of material on the platform. ABC mobilized personnel and machinery to the place to repair,” reads the Twitter.
Another region that suffered from rains, swollen rivers and cut roads were the valleys of Santa Cruz.
According to the El Deber report, last weekend, in the area of La Negra was recorded the collapse of a meter and a half of the embankment, the damage in the section had an extension of 70 meters, situation that caused the closure of the route in the afternoon of Saturday and after filling the pothole enabled the provisional path.
The report of the ABC in Santa Cruz reported more than 50 critical points in the valleys of Santa Cruz where landslides, falls of large rocks and subsidence of the asphalt layer, from La Angostura to Cuevas were recorded.
