TIPNIS seeks dialogue with president and others…

This cartoon is from El Diario, the marching group (CIDOB, TIPNIS, CONAMAQ) is knocking at the door of current president; an inside voice says “I’m not here!…” The indigenous group has been consistently asking for the president’s presence in the site where the protest walk group was resting. So far, government officials and some congressmen were ironic and even ridiculing the marching group, as if they have never been in such a situation, not so long ago (one congressmen from the ruling political party, said the marching group should get to La Paz and crucifixes themselves if they so want; current Bolivian president said that the marching group looks like they are doing tourism…)

Ahead of the march in the Yucumo town, there are a group of settlers (colonos) who intend to stop the TIPNIS protest walk. So, the group has sent people to start the dialogue with Yucumo people, without the government’s presence. The protest group delivered a letter and planned a meeting for this afternoon, as this post is being written; the goal is to expedite the route in Yucumo.

The TIPNIS negotiating group, while in Yucumo found out that there were hostages being held by the Yucumo group: one of the leaders of the National Council of Ayllus and Markas of the Qullasuyo (Conamaq), Pedro Crispín and other campesinos affiliated to this organization were held hostages. The TIPNIS negotiating group helped release those hostages as well as their belongings; so they can continue to join the protest walk.
