Univision + Bolivia = narcotraffick

Los Tiempos posted this news in its website today at 16:01 hours. It is about a TV program that was released Last week, by Univision (Mexico). The program revealed how the narcotraffick has impacted Bolivian society and its government [Keep in mind that police general René Sanabria, who was in charge of the fight against drugs, is facing trial in a US court in Florida, for trying to smuggle cocaine into the USA.]

As a result of controversy and numerous opinions, the author of such program said “The principal source of our work is not senator Roger Pinto, is a functionary from MAS (current political party in government).” Journalist Gerardo Reyes, in charge of the editions and of the reporting of the program released by Univisión: “Bolivia, a narco-State” created turmoil in Bolivia. In the program, he denounces the presence in Bolivia of one of the sons of “Chapo” Guzmán (powerful Sinaloa cartel in Mexico, Chapo was reported in Forbes as one of the top rich people in the world, his wealth calculated at around a billion dollars. Earlier reports said that his son may have been living in Santa Cruz, he crashed a one engine plane, when he was taking flying lessons.), in addition of the presence of drug cartels from Colombia, Brasil and México.

Reyes also stated that the person who helped with the information is “sick of the complicity levels between authorities and narcotraffickers”, as reported by El Deber in its printed version.

The Colombian journalist, who won the Pulitzer price with another colleague, for showing an electoral fraud in the Miami election for Mayor in  1999, said that from senator Pinto, they only used the letter he sent to current Bolivian president, requesting an investigation where there are many governmental authorities involved.

“It would be interesting to know when was the first time that (minister Sacha) Llorenti received a report from suspicious activities by general René Sanabria”, adds Reyes and believes necessary to know the advances in the request for investigation solicited publicly by Pinto.

Reyes said that when Univision makes reports where government authorities from other countries are involved in irregular activities, those governments do not think they are being prosecuted. Because of that, he rules out a media campaign from Univisión against Cuba, Venezuela and Bolivia.

For Reyes, it is odd to se that in Bolivia, they want to place in jail the people who denounces, while narcotraffickers remain free.
