The conflict regarding a road that intends to cut in half a protected area, the TIPNIS, has generated a lot of discomfort among environmentalists, and indigenous groups that feel misrepresented and mislead. Current Constitution that gives indigenous people the rights over their own management of their land, is not being honored.
This cartoon is from El Diario, portrays the duality of current Bolivian president. Internally the decision to continue with road and the ecologic damage. On the other hand, the external policy/image, that Mother Nature is respected. A duality in government’s public speech
To make things worse, some members of the government intend dialogue; others attacked the indigenous leaders. Allegations of being compromised with the “empire”, illegal logging, corruption, threats from coca growers groups are a few but serious actions that do not contribute to dialogue.
