This cartoon portrays the protest walk of the TIPNIS indigenous people, La Prensa, August 25, 2011. The “government” says: “beware, almost all of them are heavily armed with cell phones!!” in reference to the phone calls that the government said took place between some of those marching leaders and officials of the US Embassy in Bolivia.

This cartoon is from La Razon, August 25, 2011. It shows the government looking after the marching people. The person looking back is wearing a shirt that says made in USA, and holds a sign “We want a pluri-national State not a transnational cocalero (coca grower).” The minister of interior here is wearing a long coat with the patches of AID from USA, Cuba, Venezuela, China and Europe, government is pointing at the indigenous person as if there was a big discovery (aha!) while the government itself receives aid from many sources. Up front in the march a women holds a sign “TIPNIS is LIFE.”
Today, at 9:00 am it is scheduled the beginning of the talks between the government and the indigenous groups. I will report as information becomes available.
