After being sworn in as the new Vice Minister of Lands, Hormando Vaca Diez said that during nearly 20 years of the Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) in power, many fallacies were constructed, including the supposed defense of natural resources and Mother Earth, when reality showed that the socialist regime turned land into loot to benefit mafias disguised as social movements.

“For twenty years, the MAS has built many fallacies, among them the defense of natural resources and Mother Earth, which were political slogans, while in practice it was allowed for peoples such as the Tsimane to be trampled,” Vaca Diez stated.

He also pointed out that one of the events that revealed the true face of “masismo” was the intervention and harsh repression against an Indigenous march of peoples from the lowlands in the town of Chaparina, where the regime of Evo Morales and his allies showed that the defense of Indigenous peoples was only a mask.

“Land was turned into loot to benefit mafias disguised as social movements. (…) land stopped belonging to those who work it and became the property of those who traffic it,” the new authority affirmed, stressing that the land policy implemented by the MAS only caused these mafias to expand their criminal activity to different parts of the country.

A clear example of this, he said, were the different violent takeovers of properties in the eastern part of the country, or the recent attack on a cacique who was assaulted for defending his land, which are clear acts of “agrarian terrorism” promoted by political pacts between leaders and former authorities.

“Respect for property and ancestral territory will be the central line of our management (…). Land will once again belong to those who work it and who respect the law,” he announced.
