Burning of houses and land seizures: the alleged threats in the tropics for those who do not resign from MAS

A former regional leader claims that the resignations of MAS supporters are “a show” because they are not willing to give up their seats.

In the tropics of Cochabamba, people are being threatened with having their houses burned and their land expropriated if they do not resign from the Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS), denounced former local leader Gregorio Mamani on Thursday.

“Right now, there are people in the tropics being threatened with having their houses taken away, their houses burned, being forced to sell their lots. This is the most common situation; the current internal crisis within the political instrument is pitting us against each other,” the former leader from the Cochabamba tropics told the press.

Since the alliance between the Evistas and the Frente Para la Victoria (FPV) was made official, Evo Morales’ followers have been instructed to resign from MAS. However, since Monday, only a few have decided to leave the ruling party.

“The resignations happening in the tropics of Cochabamba are a show. Look at our fellow (Leonardo) Loza, Héctor Arce—let them resign from their seats. When we talk about traitors, it is Evo who is betraying the political instrument,” Mamani criticized.

A similar situation is occurring in Chuquisaca, where MAS leadership claims that party members in the provinces are being pressured to resign.
