At least two workers from the Chinese company Sinohydro, which is building the El Sillar double road, were arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in the dismemberment of a jaguar (Panthera onca), which was run over while trying to cross the Cochabamba-Santa Cruz highway at km 124 to pass from the Espíritu Santo I river to the mountain range on Monday, sources close to the case reported.

According to local testimonies, the feline was coming out of the river when it was run over. However, they were alarmed when the workers took the animal to their camp and it ended up dismembered, according to the images of the complaint circulating on social networks.

In recent hours, an inter-institutional commission inspected the company’s camp, where they found the viscera and a leg, as well as the head, but without the fangs. Officials from the Carrasco National Park, the Forestry and Environmental Police (Pofoma), and others would have participated in the inspection.

The same sources request that signage be placed to protect wild animals.
