The Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the dismissal of the former president of the State, Jeanine Añez Chávez, for the crimes of sedition and conspiracy in the case called coup d’état I, in which she still must face a trial for the crime of terrorism.

The dismissal resolution is dated January 15 and, in it, the crimes ruled out in this investigation are mentioned.

In December 2023, the Prosecutor’s Office formally accused Añez of complicity in terrorism, due to the events of 2019 where she assumed the presidency after the resignation of Evo Morales.

The former president was accused of three crimes: terrorism, sedition and conspiracy, but with these latest decisions she will only face trial for the first type of crime.

In the latest document issued by the Prosecutor’s Office, it is explained that the case has been dismissed because it was not possible to accumulate sufficient elements to support an accusation for the aforementioned crimes.

In the resolution, former ministers Rodrigo Guzmán and Álvaro Coímbra were also acquitted for the crimes of sedition, conspiracy and terrorism. They were already sentenced in December in the abbreviated process for concealment and criminal association.

The same figure was applied to four former military chiefs: Flavio Arce, Palmiro Jarjury, Gonzalo Terceros and Pastor Mendieta, who previously admitted guilt for minor crimes and were now acquitted of sedition, conspiracy and terrorism.

The dismissal for sedition and conspiracy was also issued in favor of former military leaders Carlos Orellana and Jorge Fernández, although both are being prosecuted in absentia.

In this case, the alleged coordination of Luis Fernando Camacho with the police and military to overthrow Evo Morales in 2019 is being investigated. The former civic leader is the main defendant for the crime of terrorism. (Erbol)
