Park rangers are withdrawn

The deputy for the Citizen Community (CC), María José Salazar, denounced that park rangers who perform functions in the territory of the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park are retracted due to the lack of payment of their salaries.

Salazar pointed out that due to the determination made due to the lack of payment, these people are victims of intimidation and threats so that they return to their sources of employment.

“For eight days the park rangers have withdrawn to their camp and so far the ministry has not had a response to their demands, on the contrary, they have been sent a letter threatening them,” she said.

She pointed out that in the notes sent to those mobilized processes are announced, without taking into account that the withdrawal measure was assumed in an extreme situation, in which they can no longer afford their transportation, in addition to other expenses and obligations.

“In these notes they are told that they are liable to processes for abandoning their source of employment, however, they have withdrawn because it was already an unsustainable situation since they mobilized with their own resources,” said the legislator.

Salazar lamented the state of abandonment in which there are facilities intended for sheltering park rangers and museums in this nature reserve, questioning the attention given to other “useless” buildings such as the museum dedicated to former President Evo Morales.

From social networks, Senator Cecilia Requena highlighted the work carried out by these people despite the shortcomings, “working from where they belong to continue fighting in the defense of nature and the search for alternatives for a sustainable future for the country. and the world”.

Ella Requena stated that in Bolivia, the park ranger fulfills his sacrificed and vital duty, despite multiple adversities and additional challenges.

“Many protected areas do not have enough people to cover large areas of territory. His work is constant and daily. They carry out their duty away from their families and taking great risks in very precarious conditions. In addition, they are threatened with dismissal or relocation, just for fulfilling their responsibility to report predatory activities,” she stated.

She argued that these poor conditions are the result of incompetence, corruption or even the interest of institutions such as Sernap in dismantling the care of protected areas to hand them over to mining (legal or illegal), deforestation, burning and the opening of roads for hydrocarbon exploration, among others.

• Señalan que la medida del repliegue fue asumida ante una situación extrema en la que ya no pueden solventar su transporte además de otros gastos y obligaciones.

La diputada por Comunidad Ciudadana (CC), María José Salazar, denunció que guardaparques que desempeñan funciones en territorio del Parque Nacional Noel Kempff Mercado, se encuentran replegados ante la falta de pago en sus salarios.

Salazar señaló que por la determinación asumida a causa de la falta de pago, estas personas son víctimas de amedrentamientos y amenazas para que retornen a sus fuentes laborales.

“Hace ocho días que están los guardaparques replegados en su campamento y hasta ahora el ministerio no ha tenido respuesta a sus demandas, por el contrario, se les ha mandado una carta donde se los amenaza”, dijo.

Puntualizó que en las notas enviadas a los movilizados se anuncian procesos, sin tomar en cuenta que la medida del repliegue fue asumida ante una situación extrema, en la que ya no pueden solventar su transporte, además de otros gastos y obligaciones.

“En estas notas se les dice que son pasibles a procesos por abandonar su fuente laboral, sin embargo, ellos se han replegado porque ya era una situación insostenible ya que ellos se movilizaban con sus propios recursos”, afirmó la legisladora.

Salazar lamentó el estado de abandono en el que se encuentran instalaciones destinadas al albergue de los guardaparques y museos en esta reserva natural, cuestionando la atención que se le da a otras edificaciones “inservibles” como el museo dedicado al expresidente Evo Morales.

Desde las redes sociales, la senadora Cecilia Requena, destacó el trabajo realizado por estas personas pese a las carencias, “trabajando desde donde les toca para seguir dando batalla en la defensa de la naturaleza y la búsqueda de alternativas para un futuro sostenible para el país y el mundo”.

Requena manifestó que en Bolivia, el guardaparque cumple con su sacrificado y vital deber, pese a múltiples adversidades y desafíos adicionales.

“Muchas áreas protegidas no cuentan con suficiente gente para cubrir grandes extensiones de territorio. Su labor es constante y diaria. Cumplen su deber lejos de sus familias y corriendo grandes riesgos en condiciones muy precarias. Además, sufren amenazas de despidos o de relocalización, sólo por cumplir con su responsabilidad de denunciar actividades depredadoras”, indicó.

Sostuvo que estas malas condiciones son fruto de la incompetencia, la corrupción o incluso el interés de instituciones como el Sernap en desmontar el cuidado de las áreas protegidas para entregarlas a la explotación minera (legal o ilegal), la deforestación, las quemas y la apertura de caminos para la exploración de hidrocarburos, entre otras.
