The strike ends and they say that if the government’s “arrogance” persists, new pressure measures for the census will be defined on Thursday
This was announced at a meeting of the Interinstitutional Committee held at the UAGRM
The Inter-institutional Committee, in its evaluation of this Monday’s strike, announces that after the success of this measure it will meet again on Thursday the 28th to define the next measures, if the Government ‘does not go down’ to Santa Cruz to talk about the census and that it be carried out in 2023.
Vicente Cuéllar, Rector of the Gabriel René Moreno University, and spokesman for the Interinstitutional Committee for the Promotion of the Census, stated that the strike was the responsibility of the Government; he argued that, since last February, they have sent notes requesting a meeting and dialogue so that “the census is carried out in a timely and transparent manner.”
For the spokesman, the strike was forceful and a sign that there is a collective consciousness in the citizen that the census is a national and regional necessity.
“Who should solve this issue is the Government. They just need to have the political will, to drop the arrogance and come down and talk with us”, he emphasized.
On his side, Rómulo Calvo, president of the Committee for Santa Cruz, said that the strike was successful and announced that next Wednesday the 27th there will be a meeting of the country’s civic groups in Cochabamba to discuss the census. He did not rule out that a national protest measure would be adopted later.
Luis Fernando Camacho, Governor of Santa Cruz, criticized the statements made by President Luis Arce last Saturday, in the sense that the census and the increase in population do not mean that there will be greater economic resources. Camacho recalled that, if there is population growth, a new fiscal pact and the reallocation of resources will be necessary, as provided for in the Political Constitution of the State.
He also warned that the measures of the Inter-institutional Committee will be hardened if the Government’s indifference to the demands of the region continues.

El Comité Interinstitucional, en su evaluación del paro de este lunes, anuncia que luego del éxito de esta medida se volverá a reunir el jueves 28 para definir las próximas medidas, si es que el Gobierno ‘no baja’ hasta Santa Cruz para hablar sobre el censo y que éste se desarrolle en 2023.
Vicente Cuéllar, rector de la Universidad Gabriel René Moreno, y vocero del Comité Interinstitucional Impulsor del Censo, manifestó que la realización del paro fue responsabilidad del Gobierno; argumentó que, desde febrero pasado le envían notas para pedir una reunión y diálogo para que “el censo se realice de manera oportuna y transparente”.
Para el vocero, el paro fue contundente y una muestra de que existe una conciencia colectiva en el ciudadano de que el censo es una necesidad nacional y regional.
“Quien debe solucionar este tema es el Gobierno. Solamente se necesita que tenga la voluntad política, que deje la arrogancia y que baje, y converse con nosotros”, enfatizó.
De su lado, Rómulo Calvo, presidente del Comité pro Santa Cruz, dijo que el paro fue exitoso y anunció que el próximo miércoles 27 habrá una reunión de los cívicos del país en Cochabamba para tratar la realización del censo. No descartó de que, más adelante se adoptada una medida nacional de protesta.
Luis Fernando Camacho, gobernador cruceño, criticó las declaraciones vertidas por el presidente Luis Arce, el sábado pasado, en el sentido de que el censo y el incremento de población no significa que habrá mayores recursos económicos. Camacho recordó que, si hay crecimiento de población, serán necesarios un nuevo pacto fiscal y la reasignación de recursos, como prevé la Constitución Política del Estado.
Asimismo advirtió que las medidas del Comité Interinstitucional se irán endureciendo de mantenerse la indiferencia del Gobierno frente a las demandas de la región.
