Drought is critical in the Chaco and will last until August
The Chaco and Chiquitania regions are affected by meteorological drought, which translates into low rainfall that affects food production, reported the head of the Climatology Unit of the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi), Willy Rocha.
“Now we are in a dry season and these precipitations are even scarcer. We are in a very critical situation, we are in a drought in Chiquitania and the Chaco region,” he explained to Urgente.bo.
This problem, according to the person in charge, has occurred every year since 2019 in these regions, which are part of the departments of Chuquisaca, Tarija and Santa Cruz.
He explained that this situation is a consequence of what happened in the rainy season, when there was abundant rainfall for only a few months and not from December 2021 to February of this year as planned.
He indicated that there are several factors for the drought, including the La Niña phenomenon that affects it indirectly and heat sources. (Urgent.bo)

Las regiones del Chaco y la Chiquitania están afectadas por la sequía meteorológica, lo que se traduce en un bajo índice de precipitaciones que afecta a la producción de alimentos, informó el responsable de la Unidad de Climatología del Servicio Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología (Senamhi), Willy Rocha.
“Ahora estamos en una época seca y estas precipitaciones son aún más escasas. Estamos en una situación bastante crítica, estamos en una sequía en la Chiquitania y la región del Chaco”, explicó a Urgente.bo.
Este problema, según el responsable, se presenta cada año desde el 2019 en dichas regiones, que son parte de los departamentos de Chuquisaca, Tarija y Santa Cruz.
Detalló que esta situación es una consecuencia de lo que ocurrió en la época de lluvias, cuando hubo abundantes precipitaciones solo por algunos meses y no desde diciembre del 2021 hasta febrero de este año como se tenía previsto.
Indicó que existen varios factores para la sequía, entre ellos el fenómeno de La Niña que afecta indirectamente y los focos de calor. (Urgente.bo)
