Prensa Latina reports:
Bolivia: Made 313 Million Dollars for Sale of Organic Food
In that period, 169 million dollars were obtained for the sale of 15,000 tons of chestnut -product of which Bolivia is one of the largest producers in the world- to Peru, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, France, Canada and Spain.
In addition, 32,000 tons of real quinoa were sold for a value of 74 million dollars.
Likewise, the trade of 116,000 tons of banana, mainly to Argentina, Uruguay and Peru, gave a profit of 30 million dollars.
Last year 12,000 tons of chia were sold to Peru, the Netherlands and the United States, basically, for a total amount of 27 million dollars.
On the other hand, 13 million dollars were obtained for the commercialization of 13 thousand tons of beans, destined for the markets of Brazil, Colombia and Spain.
Organic, ecological or biological food is the agricultural or agro-industrial product produced under a group of procedures called ecological, which avoid the use of synthetic products, such as pesticides, herbicides and artificial fertilizers.
The Government’s purpose is to increase this type of production by more than 10 percent by 2020, in the context of the Social Economic Development Plan. [Wrong! over the twelve years of government that evo’s autocrat ruling has had full control of ALL State powers, he has done otherwise. Illegal and fearful land-take-overs; quotas imposed on agricultural exports have limited severely agricultural production, land-tenure and investment. With regard to foreign investment, we do not forget what happened to American Jacob Ostreicher that came with $30 million dollars to invest in agriculture … he was tricked, manipulated, sent to jail and only with the help of Sean Penn could scape this authoritarian regime. Sean tricked evo as he came as a “friend” to his regime, was named some sort of “ambassador,” but helped Jacob scape. In short, evo’s government has done very little to allow the organic production this article talks about. Within these brackets, is the opinion of Bolivian Thoughts.]
