Bolivian government has decided to send three ministers to start-up the dialogue with the TIPNIS protest walk group. As reported by Los Tiempos website last night around 22:00 hours; group of ministers will go to San Ignacio de Moxos; indigenous group are in Totaizal which is half way between San Borja and San Ignacio de Moxos. The appointed ministers are: Carlos Romero, Presidency; Sacha Llorenti, Government and Claudia Peña, Autonomies; they intend to meet with a small group appointed by the overall walking group.
There is still no news about the TIPNIS group, last we heard from them was that they wanted to meet with the government officials at Totaizal; they were particularly keen in having the meeting with all the marching group present. Now the government is sending three ministers to a town different from where they are. Furthermore, Romero was “vetoed” before by the indigenous people.
A totally different news appeared in www.hoybolivia.com 30/08/2011 – 23:18:53. The government is asking to meet in a neutral place and have selected four ministers: Public Works, Wálter Delgadillo; Productive Development, Teresa Morales; Rural Development, Nemecia Achacollo and Autonomies, Claudia Peña. Minister Romero said they are waiting for the TIPNIS group reply.
So, Los Tiempos reports very differently than hoybolivia.com, probably by noon today, more news will be available.
I hope they finally meet, in negotiation the intend is to seek win-win; that means both sides have to be committed, willing to listen and also to concede something in return for what they are granting.
