Yesterday’s post outlined three major conflicts that current government will face starting August 15, 2011.
Today, Pagina Siete has this chart, with three more conflicts that will damage our economy, businesses and daily lives:
- Achacachi: The most conflicting rural area in La Paz, is opposing to the relocation of the Tupak Katari University, from Warisata (former site of the Rural Teachers College) to Huarina. They are in “emergency” and announced protest marches.
- La Paz: Three municipalities that are headed members of current political party in the national government are threatening to block La Paz City. They are Achocalla, Palca and Mecapaca; they claim is for border conflicts with the main city. (It could also mean that those municipalities are being used to “fight” the municipality of their former political ally, the MSM party.
- Oruro: The owner’s of the illegal vehicles that entered the country and are questioned, seized are demanding their release. Public transport group wants the road to Tarija to be improved. They announced protest marches and some blockades.
The government is doing its best to minimize those conflicts and at best trying to stop marches and blockades. In the case of El Alto, who is the most conflicting and visible of the six problems, received a millionaire offer, six times more than what that municipality received in 2001, and more funding for other projects. In 2001 El Alto received 175 million Bolivianos and this year the attractive offer “to forget” about the national census is 1,800 million Bolivianos (6.86 Bolivianos to the american dollar).
