TIPNIS protest march ready to begin

This cartoon is from La Razon (8/12/2011), it shows current president staring at TIPNIS people and wildlife an in the upper center you read “COCAPITALISM?”, a direct reference of what public opinion is beginning to think more and more: coca production and its trade resembles and operates under capitalism rules; despite what this government says and endorses publicly against globalization and free market.

La Razon reports today that TIPNIS leaders said they will not dialogue with the government until they reach La Paz. That is a very long walk… and they intend to speak directly with current president, no one else.

In the past, these type of declarations have been proved to be only “political statements” in preparation of the ambience and dialogue. I hope those people do not need to force themselves along that long walk (small children are included in these type of actions; along with elderly are often used as elements to inspire affectin and sorrow; they are used to reinforce their political positions and that is questionable). An agreement should be made long before that. In an earlier post, at least four alternatives to the road were presented. Government should come to its senses and help protect our biodiversity. Bolivia and the world does not need deforestation, coca plants and illegal activities inside the TIPNIS!!

El Dia reports the head of the road service (ABC) Luis Sanchez acknowledging five alternatives for that road; three proposed by ABC and two others proposed by the Civic Committees of Cochabamba and Beni.

So, if there are alternatives, why doesn’t this government opens up those alternatives and states that road will not go inside TIPNIS? and prevent that march from happening? Why do Bolivians need to go to extreme and then go back? No one wants to lose face or “authority” and in the meantime our daily lives are stressed out. We forgot to be proactive, to seek solutions on behalf of the majority.

This cartoon is from La Prensa (8/12/2011). Mother Nature saying: “The ‘CONQUEROR’ is macho-type, disrespectful, patriarchal and abusive, not convenient for you”; while on the left a threatening coca grower with its revolutionary “angel”.
