This cartoon appeared in La Razon on August 1, 2011. It shows current government’s economic policies.
The Bolivian Treasury is giving subsidies to hydrocarbons (gasoline, diesel) which leave our country at some points on our international borders. Bolivia is not producing enough of these fuels and are importing at higher prices and are selling to the consumers at lower prices.
The government’s new intention to subsidize is for the excess coca leaves. Coca that are in excess of what the law prescribes as the approved coca for traditional purposes, will now be purchased by the government.
