THE CURRENT ONE HARMS THEM

Microentrepreneurs prepare labor law proposal based on the premise that payment should be tied to production

Leader Guillermo Chávez explains the characteristics of the proposal.

The microenterprise sector is drafting a new Labor Law that adapts to modern times and production methods, because it believes the current regulation works against producers.

The information was provided by the executive of the regional federation of microentrepreneurs of El Alto, Guillermo Chávez, who stated that the national confederation will meet in about two weeks to refine the draft bill.

According to Chávez, microenterprises seek to formalize payment systems based on hours produced and piecework, meaning payment per item produced.

“That hourly work, hourly production, hourly payment be normalized and made valid. And also the issue of how we are currently working: we are working under independent piecework contracts,” he stressed.

The leader clarified that he is not against workers, but that realism is necessary. He pointed out that self-employed workers currently represent 85% of the national economy and are the largest sector providing employment.

He also lamented that his sector is harmed by road blockades and smuggling. He noted that union leaders remain comfortable carrying out blockades while continuing to receive a salary, whereas producers suffer the impact of those measures.
