Tourism Minister Highlights That Defense of Heritage Is Not an Act of Exclusion, but of “Cultural Justice”

Tourism Minister Cinthya Yáñez stated that the defense of national heritage should not be interpreted as an act of exclusion, but as a form of cultural justice.
The authority made these statements this Saturday during the Carnival parade in Oruro, an activity in which she accompanied President Rodrigo Paz. She pointed out that Bolivian folklore constitutes a cultural treasure and that its protection is a priority of the State.
“Defending our heritage must not be an act of exclusion, but of cultural justice. When we protect our expressions, we do not seek to build walls, but to ensure that the history behind each symbol is respected and recognized in its original context.”
Importance of culture
Yáñez maintained that culture must remain a source of collective pride and be “guarded by the heart of its people.” She affirmed that the best way to protect cultural heritage is to celebrate it.
In addition, she indicated that the Oruro Carnival represents a tool for global connection that characterizes Bolivia’s identity.
“One of the main bridges between the world and Bolivia is this wonderful festival, which celebrates Oruro and at the same time the dance, musical, and costume traditions of the entire country. They are not merely objects, they are not merely artistic expressions, but archives of our identity,” she said.
Presidential stance
This Saturday, Rodrigo Paz also emphasized that Oruro, through its carnival, reflects the country’s diversity and cultural richness and demonstrates that Bolivia can unite through its traditions.
“Today Oruro expresses the homeland, our diversity, our ability to unite through culture, which is in turn the strongest way we have. Our culture is invincible, our way of being is invincible,” Paz stressed to the media in Oruro.

La ministra de Turismo Cinthya Yáñez afirmó que la defensa del patrimonio nacional no debe interpretarse como un acto de exclusión, sino como una forma de justicia cultural.
La autoridad realizó estas declaraciones este sábado durante la entrada del carnaval en Oruro, actividad en la que acompañó al presidente Rodrigo Paz. Señaló que el folclore boliviano constituye un tesoro cultural y que su protección es una prioridad del Estado.
“Defender nuestro patrimonio no debe ser un acto de exclusión, sino de justicia cultural. Cuando protegemos nuestras expresiones, no buscamos levantar muros, sino asegurar que la historia detrás de cada símbolo sea respetada y reconocida en su contexto original”.
Importancia de la cultura
Yáñez sostuvo que la cultura debe mantenerse como un motivo de orgullo colectivo y ser “custodiada por el corazón de su gente”. Aseguró que la mejor forma de proteger el patrimonio cultural consiste en celebrarlo.
Además, indicó que el Carnaval de Oruro representa una herramienta de conexión global que caracteriza la identidad de Bolivia.
“Uno de los principales puentes entre el mundo y Bolivia es esta maravillosa fiesta, que celebra a Oruro y al mismo tiempo las tradiciones dancísticas, musicales y de vestuario de todo el país. No solo son objetos, no solo son expresiones artísticas, sino que son archivos de nuestra identidad”, dijo.
Postura presidencial
Este sábado, Rodrigo Paz también destacó que Oruro, a través de su carnaval, refleja la diversidad y la riqueza cultural del país y demuestra que Bolivia puede unirse mediante sus tradiciones.
“Hoy día Oruro expresa la patria, nuestra diversidad, nuestra capacidad de unirnos a través de la cultura, es también a su vez la manera más fuerte que tenemos. Nuestra cultura es invencible, nuestra forma de ser es invencible”, resaltó Paz ante los medios de comunicación en Oruro.
