Two professional staff members from the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee will arrive in Bolivia this week to discuss opportunities for economic, diplomatic, and security cooperation.

Both U.S. envoys are scheduled to visit Santa Cruz and La Paz and to meet with Bolivian government officials, legislators, and business leaders, according to official sources.

After the end of the MAS period in Bolivia’s government, there have been renewed contacts with the United States, which materialized with the visit of Undersecretary of State Christopher Landau in November of last year.

At that meeting, Landau and Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz announced the restoration of diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level.

In December, following the publication of the Supreme Decree that eliminated fuel subsidies, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States supported the measures taken by the Paz government.

“The United States views positively today’s announcement by President Rodrigo Paz of a significant package of economic reforms aimed at restoring stability, prosperity, and investment in Bolivia after decades of failed policies,” the document states.
