There are no dollars, and the boliviano is not enough. Despite this, local tourism companies provide options for Bolivians to enjoy a getaway.

The year-end holidays are here, along with vacations. Whether families with children, couples, or groups of friends, many people look forward to traveling or going on excursions during this time. However, this year’s crisis demands creativity when planning trips.

For this reason, various travel and tourism agencies have prepared affordable packages to always interesting destinations. The condition, with few exceptions, is that these trips are for domestic destinations.

“To be honest: unless you have substantial resources, it’s best to think about regions within the country. Traveling abroad has become very expensive and complicated, especially due to the lack of dollars,” explained an employee from a travel agency in La Paz.

Travel packages range from 250 bolivianos to over a thousand, depending on factors such as trip duration, group size, scheduled activities, and transportation.

“Most tourism agencies work by tailoring packages. It’s the best way since the client determines what works best for them, from timing to planned activities at the destination,” explained Gayla Vargas of Turismo Kolla.

Not all agencies adapt to customer preferences; some prepare pre-arranged packages catering to specific needs. These may follow aesthetic themes or conceptual frameworks like historical or religious tourism.

There are also initiatives that highlight specific aspects of travel. One such example is the Mujeres Viajeras initiative, which primarily focuses on user safety.

Valeria Dorado, the founder, created this community to promote spaces where women could travel according to their needs while ensuring personal safety.

In this case, the trips are organized by Dorado. “What I do is plan trips based on what personally interests me. I share the idea with community members, and from there, we schedule dates and destinations,” she said.

Like many affordable options, these trips are domestic, often to familiar places but with a special twist: exploring lesser-known spots. More information is available on their Instagram and TikTok accounts.

Unfortunately, these options depend heavily on the national situation. A blockade, like the one experienced last month, can ruin even the most carefully planned adventure.
