“Bolivia wins again in Europe (…).” This was the enthusiastic message with which the group Expresión Boliviana announced that their director, Adett Pinto Gemio, received the award for best musician at an Italian festival.

Maestro Pinto attended the “Festival Incontro Internazionale del Folklor Musiche e Danze dal Mondo” in Sicily, southern Italy.

After “masterfully and passionately playing the zampoña and quena” on that European stage, accompanied by the musicians of Expresión Boliviana, the organization decided to award him the “Gianni Casu” prize.

“(Director Adett Pinto) made our musical group shine,” the members of Expresión Boliviana expressed with great emotion. They are currently touring Italy alongside the delegation from the National Academy of Dances of Bolivia (Andebol).

CURRENT AFFAIRS

From Italy, Maestro Pinto spoke with OPINIÓN and shared that the festival where he emerged victorious was filled with professional artists. Delegations from the Philippines, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Chile, and Poland, among others, attended.

Among all of them, “Bolivia stood out at the highest level.”

He mentioned that the group Expresión Boliviana has been in Europe for almost two months, with one more month to go “to continue carrying the tricolor.” Their last stop will be in South Korea, where they will compete in the Cheonan World Dance Festival.

CAREER

Pinto recalled that he began his musical journey at the age of eight, learning to play the zampoña and joining his school’s music groups.

Later, with his friends from the Villa Victoria neighborhood in La Paz, he formed the traditional music group Willa Kolla.

He was eventually invited to join the group Chuspas, which he led until a few years ago. One of his greatest achievements was recording indigenous music on albums, playing various instruments and rhythms.

He later organized the folk groups Chuspas and Expresión Boliviana and occasionally participated in groups like Jayanquiris, Kolla Marka, and Coca, among others.

“Currently, we have resumed activities with the musical group Expresión Boliviana, along with great companions like Carlos Enríquez, Miguel Salcedo, and my sons Adett Pinto Moscoso and Salomón Pinto Moscoso. We are accompanying the tours of the National Dance Academy.”
