Senamhi: Orange Alert for Possible River Overflow in Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, and Yungas de La Paz

Senamhi forecasts “sudden rises in water levels with possible overflows in the basins of the Yapacaní, Ichilo, Chapare, and Beni rivers.”

The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) has activated the Orange hydrological alert from May 8 to May 15 for possible river overflows in the departments of Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Norte, and Yungas de La Paz.

Senamhi predicts “sudden rises in water levels with possible overflows in the basins of the Yapacaní, Ichilo, Chapare, and Beni rivers.”

The alert is valid from Wednesday, May 8, to Saturday, May 11, in the Ichilo, Yapacaní, Surutú, and Piraí rivers in the department of Santa Cruz, affecting the towns of San Juan Campo Victoria, San Germán, Avaroa Molle, Villa Rosario, Barranca General Román, San Juan de Yapacaní, Surutú, Villa Yapacaní, Santa Rosa del Sara, Cuatro Ojos, and nearby communities.

Likewise, there is an alert for possible overflows in the rivers Ichilo, Ivirgarzama, Magareño, Chimoré, Chapare, Chipiriri, Eterazama, Ichóa, Isiboro, and Venticuatro, in the department of Cochabamba.

The increase in river flow, with a likelihood of overflows, will affect the towns of Puerto Villarroel, Puerto Grethel, Entre Ríos, Bulo Bulo, Ivirgarzama, Chimoré, Villa Tunari, Puerto San Pedro, Santa Rosa del Chapare, Puerto San Francisco, Eterazama, Ichóa, San Miguel de Isiboro, San Cristóbal, and nearby communities.

Meanwhile, in the Northern and Yungas of La Paz, the alert is valid from Wednesday, May 8, to Wednesday, May 15.

Rises with possible overflows of the Cotacajes, Boopi, Tamampaya, Solacama, Unduavi, Taquesi, Luribay, Miguillas, Zongo, Coroico, Yara, Alto Beni, Tipuani, Tuhichi, Cuñada, and secondary tributaries are forecasted.

The affected populations will be Cimarrón, La Asunta, Chulumani, Luribay, Zongo, Cahua, Apana, Fariñas, Coroico, Caranavi, Santa Rita de Buenos Aires, Palos Blanco, Alto Beni, Tipuani, Chima, Bartolo, Guanay, Angosto Quercano, Mapiri, Pelechuco, and nearby communities.
