They look after individual interests’

Expressing regret over the increasingly frequent internal disputes within opposition political organizations, former rector of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA), Waldo Albarracín, argued that such positions reveal personal interests and prevent the consolidation of unity projects to defeat the ruling party in the upcoming elections.

Through his social media channels, Albarracín pointed to personal ambitions and particular interests as one of the main reasons why a political unity option emerges and consolidates itself for the upcoming 2025 electoral contests.

According to the former university authority, these party disputes also thwart the aspirations of the population to have an option that can stand up to the MAS (Movement for Socialism) and its allies.

“The internal divisions within the opposition, reflecting the individual interest of those who consider themselves ‘presidential candidates,’ obstruct the Bolivian people’s aspiration to form a united, democratic, serious instrument capable of defeating the MAS dictatorship and drug trafficking,” Albarracín expressed through his account on the social media platform X.

This week, members of the Community Citizen parliamentary bloc in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly (ALP) denounced attempts to overthrow the main political opposition force in Parliament through judicial maneuvers. They announced having confirmed their leadership positions in both the House of Deputies and the Senate, pointing fingers at government authorities, judiciary administrators, and dissenting legislators for working in coordination.

“The turncoats and their accomplices will once again be defeated,” said Deputy Enrique Urquidi, insisting that CC will not succumb to intimidations or threats.

Responding to these accusations, Deputy Marcelo Pedrazas from Chuquisaca stated that these positions do not represent the opposition but rather a group of “weak and lacking in judgment” assembly members.
