Intense rains and river overflows already affect 3,077 families in the country

In the first months of the rainy period of this administration, the Vice Ministry of Civil Defense already assisted a total of 3,077 families affected by the effects of the intense rains reported in the country, such as river overflows, landslides, among others.

“From November 2023 to January of this year, there are six departments affected by rains and floods, we do not have any department that has declared a disaster or emergency; There are two municipalities declared in disaster, Cotagaita (Potosí) and La Asunta (La Paz). In total there are 25 municipalities that suffered in lesser, medium or greater intensity, the effects of the intense rains,” reported the vice minister of the area Juan Carlos Calvimontes.

In a press conference he specified that in this period of rain, the rainfall affected 132 communities, destroyed 29 homes and another 44 were damaged. The death toll is 10 dead and one missing.

The government’s help to families consisted of the delivery of 122.72 tons of food and supplies, framed within the National Emergency Plan for floods.

Calvimontes praised the work of the technicians of the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) for issuing alerts about heavy rains, river overflows, in addition to electrical storms.

“Throughout the weekend, we have fundamentally monitored the Acre River and we have been able to perceive that, although there is an increase in the water level, it is still not serious enough for some towns to be flooded,” he said. .
