The Bolivian dried bean market opens in the United Arab Emirates: 20 tons are exported

The Arab Emirates became a new Bolivian export market for dried beans. Producers from a community in Potosí managed to export 20 tons of this product required in Middle Eastern countries.

This is the Association of Bean Producers (ASOHABA), which exported 10 tons of caliber 9/11 and 10 tons of caliber 11/13, as a result of efforts by the Foreign Ministry and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. (FAO).

The producers received technical assistance to strengthen their organizational and technical capacities, identify and open markets, and commercial promotion through their active participation in business roundtables such as the Andean Business Meeting in August in Santa Cruz and the ALADI Expo 2023. in Havana, Cuba, in October.

ASOHABA is an association from the town of Puna, in the department of Potosí, and brings together 18 communities in the area, with more than 300 members and a significant participation of women.

Between January and July 2023, exports of dried shelled broad beans reported a value of $us 0.62 million, with a positive variation of 65% compared to the same period in 2022, when they reached $us 0.37 million, according to a Chancellery bulletin.

While in terms of volume, exports of this product reached 248 tons. The average export price was 2,491 dollars/ton, with a positive variation of 98% compared to the similar period in 2022 when it reached 1,261 dollars/ton.

The destination countries of the product are Italy (45.1%), United Arab Emirates (32.1%), Israel (13.9%), Spain (4.7%), Bahrain (3.8%) and the United States ( 0.4%).
