- The Chiquitos 2022 Missionary Music and Theater Season Festival will have concerts and plays in eight locations in Chiquitano towns and in the capital of Santa Cruz. It is dedicated to the work of Martin Schmid
The inhabitants of the Chiquitano towns carry baroque music in their blood. From there, more than 300 children, ages 11 and up, will spread out to transmit all their talent in the 2022 Missionary Music and Theater Festival Chiquitos, which will take place from Thursday to Sunday.
Temples of San Xavier, Concepción, Santa Ana, San Ignacio, San Rafael, San José, Roboré, Santiago, Porongo and the theater of the Colegio Americano in the capital of Santa Cruz will host the free concerts by 14 orchestras. In addition, the Cattleya Expressarte cast adds theater to the grid.
The event, organized by the Association for Art and Culture (APAC), the Center for Participation and Sustainable Human Development (Cepad) and municipal governments, will be dedicated to Martin Schmid, Jesuit missionary, musician and architect, to commemorate 250 years of the death of him.
“It is motivating to see the effort and spirit of our artists who delight us in the presentations and the public that gathers at the recitals,” says Percy Áñez, president of the APAC board.
Overflowing talent
The San José Patriarca String Orchestra will open the festival on Thursday 25, at 8:00 p.m., in the theater of the Santa Cruz Cooperative School.
Made up of musicians between the ages of 11 and 18, it has been preparing for months a repertoire so varied that it will go through great pieces by the masters Antonio Vivaldi and Felix Mendelssohn ending with a carnival and a chobena.
Its director, José Antonio Méndez, proudly recounts that thanks to the dedication of its musicians, the orchestra was cataloged as one of the best artistic level in Chiquitania and took missionary music to festivals in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Spain, France , Portugal and USA.
10 boys, 10 dreams
They haven’t stopped all year, rehearsing two hours a day. The Fassiv Inclusive Music Orchestra will make its second participation in a festival a reality, this time on Friday the 26th, in the missionary temple of Santa Ana, and on Sunday the 28th, in the San Ignacio Cathedral.
Its members, 10 young people between 12 and 16 years old, recently participated in the Misiones de Chiquitos International Baroque Music Festival and plan to continue taking art and culture around the world. This time, the concert will have Ignacio Balbi, Antonio Vivaldi and Pietro Locatelli.

Los habitantes de las poblaciones chiquitanas llevan la música barroca en la sangre. Desde allí, más de 300 chicos, con edades a partir de los 11 años, se desplegarán para transmitir todo su talento en el Festival de Temporada de Música Misional y Teatro Chiquitos 2022, que se desarrollará desde el jueves hasta el domingo.
Templos de San Xavier, Concepción, Santa Ana, San Ignacio, San Rafael, San José, Roboré, Santiago, Porongo y el teatro del colegio Americano de la capital cruceña serán las sedes de los conciertos gratuitos de 14 orquestas. Además, el elenco Cattleya Expressarte suma el teatro a la grilla.
El evento, organizado por la Asociación Pro Arte y Cultura (APAC), el Centro para la Participación y el Desarrollo Humano Sostenible (Cepad) y gobiernos municipales, estará dedicado a Martin Schmid, misionero jesuita, músico y arquitecto, al conmemorarse 250 años de su muerte.
“Es motivador ver el esfuerzo y el talante de nuestros artistas que nos deleitan en las presentaciones y del público que se da cita en los recitales”, expresa Percy Áñez, presidente del directorio de APAC.
Talento desbordante
La Orquesta de Cuerdas San José Patriarca abrirá el festival el jueves 25, a las 20:00, en el teatro del Santa Cruz Cooperative School.
Conformada por músicos entre los 11 y 18 años, lleva meses preparando un repertorio tan variado que pasará por grandes piezas de los maestros Antonio Vivaldi y Felix Mendelssohn terminando con un carnaval y una chobena.
Su director, José Antonio Méndez, cuenta con orgullo que gracias a la dedicación de sus músicos la orquesta fue catalogada como una de las de mejor nivel artístico en la Chiquitania y llevó la música misional a festivales de Brasil, Argentina, Paraguay, España, Francia, Portugal y EEUU.

No han parado en todo el año, ensayando dos horas diarias. La Orquesta Inclusiva de Música Fassiv hará realidad su segunda participación en un festival, esta vez el viernes 26, en el templo misional de Santa Ana, y el domingo 28, en la catedral de San Ignacio.
Sus integrantes, 10 jóvenes entre 12 y 16 años, participaron recientemente del Festival de Música Barroca Internacional Misiones de Chiquitos y planean seguir llevando arte y cultura por el mundo. Esta vez, el concierto tendrá a Ignacio Balbi, Antonio Vivaldi y Pietro Locatelli.
