This weekend the campaign “Sing, fly, fly like a bird!” Will be carried out, organized mainly by the Bolivian Platform for Action against Climate Change and the Ornithological Club of Cochabamba, through the use of birds as environmental health indicators.

From this Friday, April 30 to May 2, different activities will be carried out, virtual and face-to-face, with the aim of raising awareness and publicizing the importance of the conservation of birds in Bolivia and their habitats.

Este fin de semana se llevará a cabo la campaña “¡Canta, vuela, vuela como un pájaro!”, organizada principalmente por la Plataforma Boliviana de Acción frente al Cambio Climático y el Club Ornitológico de Cochabamba, mediante el uso de las aves como indicadores de salud ambiental.

Desde este viernes 30 de abril hasta el 2 de mayo se realizarán distintas actividades, virtuales y presenciales, con el objetivo de sensibilizar y dar a conocer la importancia de la conservación de las aves en Bolivia y de sus hábitats.

In addition, another of the objectives of this event is to encourage the participation of the Global Big Day (May 8), making it possible for Bolivia to be among the first countries in bird watching.

That same date is commemorated World Migratory Bird Day, which is why they also seek to promote the importance of celebrating these events.

Además, otro de los objetivos de este evento es incentivar a la participación del Global Big Day (8 de mayo), haciendo posible que Bolivia esté entre los primeros países en observación de aves.

Esa misma fecha se conmemora el Día Mundial de las Aves Migratorias, por lo cual también buscan promover la importancia de celebrar estos acontecimientos.

On the other hand, through webinars, the organizing committee of the campaign’s first phase is to raise awareness and educate on the importance of caring for habitats for migratory birds. These virtual meetings will be held on the following dates, with different themes each: World Migratory Bird Day (April 30), Use of the platform (Marley and Ebird) and photography workshop (May 1) and Birdwatching in the Alalay lagoon (May 2), which concentrates more than 100 species.

Por otra parte, a través de webinarios, el comité organizador de la campaña tiene como primera fase la de sensibilizar y educar sobre la importancia del cuidado de los hábitats para las aves migratorias. Estos encuentros virtuales se realizarán en las siguientes fechas, con distintas temáticas cada uno: Día Mundial de Aves Migratorias (30 de abril), Uso de la plataforma (Marley y Ebird) y taller de fotografía (1 de mayo) y Observación de las aves en la laguna Alalay (2 de mayo), que concentra más de 100 especies.

As an extra activity there is the Migratory Bird Photography Contest, which will be held on May 8 in honor of World Migratory Bird Day and Global Big Day. The contest will last until May 12. For this occasion, the Autonomous Municipal Government of Cochabamba will be sponsoring 40 awards to the winners of the contest.

It is important to remember why you are running this campaign. As Bolivia is one of the first countries on the list with the greatest diversity of bird species, the organizers are carrying out this activity to “raise public awareness of the importance of the conservation of birds that Bolivia presents and their habitats.” said Nayara Yani Choque Ramos, part of the Bolivian Platform for Action against Climate Change.

Como actividad extra está el concurso de fotografía de aves migratorias, que se realizará el 8 de mayo en honor al Día Mundial de las Aves Migratorias y el Global Big Day. El concurso durará hasta el 12 de mayo. Para esta ocasión, el Gobierno Autónomo Municipal de Cochabamba estará auspiciando 40 premios a los ganadores del concurso. 

Es importante recordar la causa por la que se está realizando esta campaña. Al ser Bolivia uno de los primeros países en la lista de mayor diversidad de especies de aves, los organizadores están llevando adelante esta actividad para “la sensibilización de la ciudadanía de lo importante que es la conservación de aves que presenta Bolivia y sus hábitats”, dijo Nayara Yani Choque Ramos, parte de la Plataforma Boliviana de Acción frente al Cambio Climático.
