ANP praises resolution on freedom on the web

Screen Shot 2016-07-18 at 9.40.33 PMThe National Press Association of Bolivia (ANP) expressed satisfaction with the resolution of the United Nations (UN) on the promotion, protection and enjoyment of human rights on the Internet.

Also, stressed the reaffirmation of the principles proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), in particular Article 19, which gives every individual “the right to freedom of opinion and expression” and “not to be disturbed because of his opinions.”

The ANP “commends the full content of the resolution which states that the rights of individuals must also be protected online, in particular freedom of expression, which is applicable regardless of frontiers and by any method is chosen, in accordance with Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights,” cites a statement from the institution.

The Association also demanded that the Bolivian Government acceding in a decisively manner to the UN resolution and, in particular, the point at which “calls upon States to promote and facilitate access to Internet and international cooperation aimed at development of the media and information and communication services in all countries.”

Furthermore, regretted that the diplomatic representation of the country “has not informed promptly of the resolution and the preparatory work.”
