Bolivia won the South American march competition in Ecuador

Castro and Rodriguez got the unprecedented athletic title for the country.

The Bolivian race walking team, female branch, kept the crown of the South American tournament of this specialty, this past weekend, it was held in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

The basis for success was the title that Angela Castro, national athlete, Tunka sportswoman, achieved in the test of 20 kilometers. To that, was added the third place of Wendy Cornejo and ninth for Stefany Coronado, both in the same competition.

According to the report of the Athletic Federation of Bolivia (FAB), Castro won the first position with a time of 1 hour, 34 minutes and 31 seconds. The second place was the Ecuadorian walker Paola Perez, with a time of 1h.35’26” and Cornejo kept the third place with a record of 1h.35’49”.

Besides the four athletes, also participated in the competition Claudia Balderrama, who did not appear among the first.

That year, the South American was in Cochabamba and Bolivia was in third place as a team. Irusta still holds the national record of the event. In 2004, in the Coruña (Spain), she achieved a record 1h.32’06”

But the success did not stop there. The La Paz runner, Pablo Rodriguez was crowned South American champion in the 10 kilometer, category-20 competition, with a time of 43 minutes and 36 seconds.

The second place went to the Ecuadorian representative Carua Amores, with 43’51”, while Lenin Mamani, of Peru, was third with 44’03”.
