According to the Bolivian government, the diplomatic relations with the USA can be restored soon, Foreign Affairs Minister said it only needs to set up a date and the place to do it…; provided the US Embassy clarifies their role regarding the TIPNIS leaders phone calls… which are viewed by this Bolivian government as something that needs explanation. Regardless of the official press release the US Embassy published before, which appeared in an earlier post here.
I do not understand current Bolivian foreign affairs policy, one day they want to throw out USAID of the country, next day they say it was a personal opinion and now they say they have everything ready to sign up… provided the US Embassy clarifies…
So, all of the above just looks as a monologue. Current government says we are ready to sign… BUT!!!….
I wonder if that is common practice in the diplomatic world, even more when a small player shows up this kind of behavior with a major player in the international arena… it does not sound realistic nor practical for the Bolivian economy.
If the government of Bolivia does not want to sign such agreement with a long-standing and important country for Bolivia, for whatever reasons. Then it should just say no, and not play or show mixed signals as if they would have a winning hand. Who loses more, if that accord is not signed? Let us be realistic!!
