Bolivian police credibility, part II

This cartoon appeared in La Razon, August 9, 2011. A police officer is caught in the act of “receiving” a bribe and yells help when two municipal guards were reprimanding him. A mob of policemen comes in rescue, while hitting one of the municipal guards… on top a sign reads “police in campaign to improve their image (credibility)”

The following link reports that municipal council and police chiefs met for over two hours today to discuss how to coordinate their work in the city of Santa Cruz. When asked about the release of the municipal guards who are still under police detention, the police department Chief said it is in the judicial system and they can do nothing to help release those municipal guards. Los Tiempos informs about a Brazilian TV network, Rede Record, which aired a program where they show one of the main narcotraffickers in the city of Cobija, Pando department. A hidden camera allowed to see how a family sells cocaine, one kilometer away from the border between the two countries. A kilo of the best cocaine is worth $2,500 dollars.

One opposition congressman, Luis Felipe Dorado wonders why no authority did say nor take any action about this case. TV program was aired three consecutive days. Dorado says the political party in government, controls de Governor’s office in Pando, the municipality and there is ineffective fight against narcotrafficking.

So, the police force is under serious scrutiny. Do not forget that former police general Sanabria, who headed the force against drugs, is in an American jail as he was caught with a large cocaine load to the USA. The Chile and Panama police forces helped in his detention.
