In addition to the money, one of the detainees was carrying a foreign passport, according to preliminary reports from the authorities.

During roadblock-clearing operations carried out on the Cochabamba–Oruro highway, two individuals were arrested while in possession of large sums of cash.

One of the individuals was intercepted while riding a motorcycle across the Parotani Bridge, carrying a backpack containing money. The second was found near the roadblocks in the Sayari area, where he was carrying money distributed in bags of different colors and was also in possession of a foreign passport.

According to preliminary reports, neither of the detainees was able to justify the origin or intended destination of the financial resources they were transporting at the time of their arrest. Authorities continue to investigate the case as part of the operations being conducted to restore traffic flow on the highway connecting Cochabamba and Oruro.

Background

The apprehension of both suspects took place within the framework of operations deployed under the state of emergency currently in effect in Bolivia, with the objective of removing the roadblocks and restoring traffic flow on the country’s highways.

Throughout Saturday, various operations have been carried out on highways in La Paz, Cochabamba, and Oruro to guarantee the free movement of vehicles and people. In Santa Cruz, a meeting is expected to take place between the San Julián roadblock organizers and authorities before an operation is deployed.
