ECONOMIC DAMAGE THROUGH BONDS

Rojas served as president of the BCB during Arce’s administration.

The La Paz Prosecutor’s Office ordered this Tuesday the arrest of former president of the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB), Edwin Rojas, along with three former executives, within the framework of a criminal investigation over bond transactions.

The information was provided by prosecutor Miguel Cardozo, who indicated that a multimillion-dollar economic damage is being investigated following a complaint filed by the BCB.

In addition to Rojas, former Operations Manager Pascual Oswaldo Quelali, former director Oscar Ferrufino, and former Economic Policy Manager Sergio Colque were also arrested.

According to the prosecutor, the former officials are being investigated over a 2024 operations regulation that allowed sovereign bond transactions. “They sold and bought bonds at amounts higher than those that had been established.”

He indicated that the three former executives appeared to testify in the morning and were placed under arrest, while Rojas appeared in the afternoon, invoked his right to remain silent, and was placed under arrest.
