The 2026 National Mountain Running Championship will begin this Saturday with the Snowrunning Chacaltaya, which will take place in the Andes mountain range at 5,421 meters above sea level, with the participation of more than 150 athletes.

“With this race the season for this type of competition will open, since the one held at the beginning of February was for the National Skyrunning Championship,” Skyrunning Bolivia reported in a press release.

The race, which is organized by Skyrunning Bolivia and endorsed by the Bolivian Ski and Mountaineering Federation, will feature athletes from different parts of the country and from abroad.

“We will have more than 150 runners and athletes will visit us from France, the Czech Republic, Peru, Spain and Switzerland, as well as from within the country such as Cochabamba, Potosí, Oruro and Santa Cruz,” said Paolo Choque, director of Skyrunning Bolivia.

They will compete in three available distances: 26, 20 and 10 kilometers, which will take place over snow.

This is an important event because it is valid for obtaining qualification for the 2027 South American Championship.

The race will take place in Chacaltaya, formerly known as the highest ski slope in the world, where from the summit one can admire the snow-capped Illimani and Huayna Potosí, as well as the Altiplano and Lake Titicaca.

“The competition will start in the town of Milluni, district 13 of the city of El Alto. This sky-modality race is a major reference at both the national and global level as it is an event held at very high altitude and with great technical difficulty, where runners challenge all these obstacles in order to seek qualification,” Choque noted.
