The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) issued an orange alert this Monday for possible river overflows in five departments. The warning will remain in effect until Friday, March 13. The regions under alert are La Paz, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Beni, and Tarija.

“We will be experiencing rains, electrical storms, and a probability of hail, and therefore a hydrological alert has been issued due to rising water levels with possible river overflows,” a Senamhi forecaster stated, according to a report by BTV.

The report details that these are the rivers in La Paz where overflows are possible: Tipuani, Mapiri, Atén, Ichara, Khatum Luribay, Sahapaki, Tamampaya, Solacama, Chulumani, Boopi, Zongo, Coroico, Yara, and Alto Beni.

In Cochabamba the rivers are: Ivirgarzama, Chimoré, Magareño, Ichilo, Chapare, Rocha, Taquiña, Siches, Venticuatro, Isiboro, and Caine.

Beni and Tarija

In Beni there is only one river that would register a rise in its water level: Maniqui. Meanwhile, in Santa Cruz the basins that could experience rising waters and possible overflows are: Ichilo, Río Grande, Yapacaní, San Julián, Surutú, Río Parí, and Pantano.

In Tarija, the rivers expected to increase their flow are: Bermejo, Salinas, San Telmo, Guadalquivir, Pilcomayo, and Pilaya.
