Poll warns of public rejection of mobilizations against Supreme Decree 5503

Most citizens surveyed through Brújula Digital’s social media expressed their disagreement with the mobilizations taking place in different parts of the country against Supreme Decree 5503, according to the results of a recent opinion poll.

On Facebook, 92% of participants said they do not agree with the protests, while only 8% expressed support. On Twitter, rejection was also overwhelming: just 4.6% supported the mobilizations, compared to a broad majority who opposed them.

The country is experiencing several social protests driven by union sectors, including the Bolivian Workers’ Center (COB), which on Monday reaffirmed the continuation of its pressure measures, although it confirmed its participation in a meeting convened by the government.

During an emergency plenary session held in the city of La Paz, the COB leadership decided to attend the meeting with executive branch authorities to hear the official position, without this implying the suspension of the indefinite national strike or the ongoing mobilizations.

COB Executive Secretary Mario Argollo stated that the labor federation will go to the dialogue with the clear objective of demanding the repeal of Supreme Decree 5503. “We have formally received the invitation from the central government and we will attend to hear what its position is. Our demand remains the repeal of the decree,” he declared.
