Vice President Edmand Lara failed to obtain the necessary votes to include his proposal for a draft resolution against President Rodrigo Paz’s adjustment decree. The country’s second-highest authority said that the measures dictated by the Government are putting Bolivia’s political and social situation in jeopardy.

“There are no two-thirds,” said the secretary of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly when the vice president put the inclusion of the draft resolution on the agenda to a vote. Applause was then heard in the chamber.

“As there are no two-thirds, the modification of the agenda is rejected; we will continue with the current session,” Lara stated.

At 11:13, the Vice Presidency’s social media accounts released a statement indicating that, in response to the outcry of the majority of society, the draft resolution against Paz’s decree would be incorporated into the agenda of Friday’s ALP session.

Disagreements and shouting

However, once the session was installed, approval of the agenda was not put to the floor, which led to disagreements and shouting. The situation escalated to the point that Lara had to declare a recess and lamented the lack of “discipline.”

When the session resumed, the procedure was corrected by putting the modification of the agenda to a vote, including the aforementioned draft resolution. Nevertheless, the majority was not in favor of taking up the resolution.

The full ALP then entered another recess.
