Visa Opening | Apertura de Visas

By ANF, Eju.tv:

Citizens of Latvia, Romania, Estonia, South Africa, South Korea, Israel, and the United States will be able to enter Bolivia without a visa

“Because of an ideological issue linked to visas, we lost 900 million dollars; that is harming the nation,” said President Rodrigo Paz, while Foreign Minister Fernando Aramayo announced that this first measure will be accompanied by additional steps to ensure that migration data and border flows provide security.

The Bolivian government reported that it has decided to eliminate visa requirements so that citizens from several countries—mainly in Europe—can visit Bolivia without administrative procedures. This measure is expected to revive and strengthen the tourism sector.

During the governments of the Movement Toward Socialism (MAS), the visits of U.S. and Israeli citizens were restricted for ideological reasons through visas, which caused a significant drop in economic revenue from tourism activity.

“We are eliminating visas for a number of countries through which Bolivia lost more than 80 million dollars in revenue at the time. Instead of bringing benefits, it has been harmful. Not only have we lost many visitors, but through an administrative instrument such as a visa, we have lost millions and millions of dollars,” lamented Paz.

Foreign Minister Fernando Aramayo stated that a visa will no longer be required for citizens of the United States, Israel, South Korea, South Africa, Latvia, Estonia, and Romania. This first measure will be accompanied by additional actions to ensure that migration information and border flows generate security.

The president stressed that all ministries must coordinate with the Ministry of Tourism because all policies must be aimed at encouraging the arrival of more visitors to the country.
