The recent ambush and killing of a soldier in Lloko Lloko, on the border with Chile, at the hands of smugglers, shows that many criminals still have not realized that Bolivia has a new government. They continue operating with the same impunity, convinced that nothing has changed. This incident should be a warning sign for Rodrigo Paz: it is time to show, through actions and not speeches, that the State has regained control and that the rules of the game are no longer the same. Law-enforcement forces need real political backing, resources, and a clear mandate to confront those who challenge the country from illegality. It is not enough to lament deaths or promise investigations. Smugglers, drug traffickers, and other criminal networks must feel firsthand that the era of tolerance is over. If the new government fails to impose authority from the beginning, criminals will continue believing that nothing changed. Paz must demonstrate that his administration marks a before and after.

La reciente emboscada y muerte de un militar en Lloko Lloko, frontera con Chile, a manos de contrabandistas, deja en evidencia que muchos delincuentes todavía no se han enterado de que en Bolivia hay un nuevo gobierno. Siguen actuando con la misma impunidad, con la certeza de que nada ha cambiado. Este hecho debería ser una señal de alerta para Rodrigo Paz: es momento de transmitir, con hechos y no con discursos, que el Estado ha recuperado el control y que las reglas del juego ya no son las mismas. Las fuerzas del orden necesitan respaldo político real, recursos y un mandato claro para enfrentar a quienes desafían al país desde la ilegalidad. No basta con lamentar muertes ni con prometer investigaciones. Los contrabandistas, narcotraficantes y demás redes criminales deben sentir en carne propia que el tiempo de la tolerancia terminó. Si el nuevo gobierno no logra imponer autoridad desde el principio, los delincuentes seguirán creyendo que nada cambió. Paz debe demostrar que su gestión marca un antes y un después.
