La Paz, Bolivia.-

Government Minister Roberto Ríos reported this Friday about an incident in the city of El Alto, where a man was caught taking photos in the area where electoral materials for the upcoming general elections on August 17 are being produced.

The individual was identified as Jorge Álvaro Z. F., who, according to his own statements, works in the Chamber of Deputies as a staffer for pro-Evo MAS deputy Gladys Quispe Chura.

“In the city of El Alto, a person named Jorge Álvaro Z. F. was caught. According to his own account, he works in the Chamber of Deputies with deputy Gladys Quispe Chura. This person was taking photos in the area where electoral materials are produced,” Minister Ríos said at a press conference.

Zárate was apprehended on site by the police and, according to the report, deleted the photos from his mobile phone before being taken to police facilities. However, he was later released.

The official claimed he was acting under the deputy’s orders to “monitor” the production process of ballots and other electoral supplies. This version was reported to the Ministry of Government, which then forwarded the case to the Plurinational Electoral Body (OEP) for evaluation and possible legal action.
